Employment Process

The application process is handled by Boone County Human Resources. You may apply online, download a PDF application to fill out and mail, or apply in person at 601 E Walnut in Columbia, MO.

If you live outside the Columbia, Missouri, area, typing tests may be taken at the nearest local employment security office. • Qualification Form - Deputy Sheriff and Corrections Officers Only

Pre-Employment Selection Process

The Sheriff's Department's pre-employment selection process consists of the following elements:

• Criminal record review
• Written Exam
• Initial interview
• Second Interview (Enforcement Process Only)
• Background investigation
• CVSA examination
• Pre-employment drug screening
• Interview with Chief Jail Administrator (Corrections Process Only)
• Psychological screening
• Pre-employment physical examination
• Any other requirement determined necessary by the Sheriff’s Department

This process generally takes five to eight weeks or longer to complete.
